Raila together with the leaders held a close-door meeting for over three hours within the lakeside city.
The governors present included Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), Gladys Wanga ( Homa Bay), Ochilo Ayacko ( Migori), James Orengo ( Siaya), Fernandes Baraza (Kakamega), Wilberforce Otichilo (Vihiga), Paul Otuoma (Busia) and Simba Arati (Kisii).
However, Raila did not speak to the media.
According to Nyong’o, they talked about issues concerning the region in terms of development, politics and national affairs.
He said they talked a lot about issues like the revitalisation of transportation in the lake, investments needed within the region like agriculture, research and access to capital.
“We had fruitful discussions with our party leader, Raila Odinga. The discussions centred around the critical areas of revitalising lake transport and bolstering food security within our region by sustaining a reliable and robust agricultural sector,” Wanga said.
She said together, they are confident that they can usher in a new era of prosperity and progress in the county of endless potential.
The governors from Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and Siaya counties later held a roundtable discussion with officials from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
This was to chart the way forward towards advancing HIV programming, transition and sustainability of all interventions geared towards eliminating the epidemic.
