Sonko comes to the aid of troubled Narok pupil

Trooubled eight- year-old pupil from Narok County can now breathe a sigh of relief after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko came to her aid.

The plight of the grade 2 pupil at Syiapei Primary School in Narok North Constituency was highlighted by Kenyans in the social media after she was pictured wrapped in a leso while her teacher was sewing her torn school uniform. The pupil who was facing challenges in school due to her humble background was also walking for 6 kms on a daily basis between school and her grandmother’s house.

Sonko has now paid for the pupil’s school fees arrears this year and he has also converted her day scholar routine to boarding to ensure she doesn’t struggle to attend school. The former Governor has also promised to sponsor the pupil’s education until she clears her primary school.

The former Governor who is well known for his philanthropy work also catered for the kid’s pocket money after he sent a total of Sh25,000 for her shopping in addition to the Sh21,000 he paid to the school for the pupil’s boarding and tuition fees.

Teachers at the school led by Joyce Malit who was pictured sewing her school uniform have welcomed Sonko’s kind gesture to the pupil saying the kid will now concentrate in school.

“We are happy with Sonko’s support and we are praying for him to get God’s blessings. We have already admitted the pupil in boarding school and she’s now focused on her future,’’ said Malit after Sonko’s help.

Sonko has told the teachers he was touched by the plight of the pupil who was struggling in school especially after she was pictured covered in a leso in school.

Early this year, Sonko also came to the aid of a 14-year-old teenage girl who went public to seek financial support to continue with her education.

Margaret Koki from Ekalakala in Matuu, Machakos County, who had been selected to join Form One at State House Girls High School in Nairobi, failed to report to school on February 6, 2023, with fellow students due to lack of school fees. But Sonko rescued her by clearing her admission fees and offered to educate her until she clears her KCSE exams.
