Rasanga: I’m ready to reconcile Orengo and his deputy

The first governor of Siaya Cornel Rasanga on Saturday offered himself as an arbiter in the simmering war between his successor James Orengo and deputy William Oduol.

Rasanga was speaking at Amani Children’s Home in Gem, Siaya, county where he distributed cereals and monetary support to the needy.

He said that he had left a strong foundation for devolution in Siaya that Orengo and Oduol ought to be building on but the unfortunate is already happening.

“I have been hearing of their wrangles in the media. I need to sit them down and help them sort out their differences,” Rasanga said.

The former governor observed that the friction between Orengo and Oduol is not healthy for the development of the devolved unit, this it is time it came to an end.

“We never expected their differences to play out as early as six months. There should be no divorce. Let them iron out their differences,” he said.

Oduol, who hails from Alego sub county has been complaining of being sidelined in the management of the county by his boss.

Also, Oduol avers that Orengo is condoning corrupt practices and diverting development projects initially line up for the Alego people to elsewhere.

The County Assembly of Siaya has already received a motion, summoning Oduol to appear before it withinn a fortnight.

The sponsor of the motion, Francis Otiato (East Yimbo MCA) told the Star that Oduol’s averments are grave, and so; it is time he formally explained himself on the issues.

“He is accusing Orengo of engaging in corrupt practices. Let him come and say what he knows because we want our county to move forward in the development front, ” Otiato said.

Otiato explained that if Oduol can substitute his claims then he (Otiato) will move an impeachment motion against Orengo.

On the other hand, Otiato said, if Oduol fails to explain himself properly then he (Otiato) will want the deputy governor impeached on grounds of misconduct.

On Friday, Otiato warned Oduol against failing to produce himself at the assembly for that would lead to his arrest and forceful production at the Assembly.

Otiato said that he is not witch-hunting Oduol because he is a person from Alego but rather because he wants the executive to deliver on the promises it made to the people during campaigns.
