Kanu: Police are to provide security not use excessive force

The Kanu party has said that the police ought not to use excessive force  on peaceful protestors.

The party took to Twitter on Sunday to air their sentiments on the matter.

“The police are supposed to provide security, “the party said.

Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi, however, has not been seen in any of the Azimio mass action rallies.

Neither has he been spotted in the Azimio meetings.

This comes amid mass action protests in the country being led by Azimio Chief Raila Odinga.

Raila said the mass action  protests will be held every week on Monday and Thursday until the government attends to the demands of Kenyans.

Among the demands Raila  gave President William Ruto is on lowering of the cost of living.

The mass action demos were held on Monday in major towns such as Nairobi, Kisumu, Kitale, Nyamira, Nakuru, Thika, Migori and Mombasa.

The Inspector General of police Japheth Koomen said more than 200 people were arrested during Monday’s mass protests.

Koome said 31 police officers were injured in the chaos.

Additionally, one male student from Maseno University was killed in the protests in Kisumu. He said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
