Fraudster Jared Kiasa Otieno arrested for defrauding a Korean Tycoon gold worth Sh54,294,457

The 38-year-old controversial gold dealer Jared Kiasa Otieno has been arrested and charged over theft of gold worth Sh54, 294, 457 in Nairobi.

The serial gold scammer was accused of stealing the precious commodity weighing 6.483 kilogrammes belonging to a Korean tycoon Shanmugam Sundar Darmaraju on diverse dates between March 30 and April 4 this year.

Otieno, who owns a fleet of pricey cars and property in Nairobi’s high-end neighbourhoods was arrested on April 13 and on May 10 he was taken to JKIA Law Courts.

He was released on a Sh30 million bond or Cash bail of Sh10 million.

The gold he stole with his accomplices was on transit from Liberia to Dubai.

The flashy dealer has been in and out of police custody and courts over gold scam cases worth millions of shillings.

He lives a luxurious life and when he went for a dowry in Meru in 2015, he used four choppers, top-of-the range cars and all manner of guests attended.

The hyped event shocked Mt Kenya region and was attended by then Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, and former cabinet minister Chris Obure.

According to an inside source, Otieno is a king in the fake gold underworld deals. When he is arrested he knows how to deal with cops and even press to kill stories.

He owns luxury vehicles like Bentley, and a customized Porsche.

On June 20, 2017, police arrested him over claims he swindled foreigners in a gold export deal. He obtained the money by pretending to be in a position to export gold from Kenya to foreign countries.

He was accused of conning a Dubai royal out of Sh. 300 million in a fake gold racket.

He was charged with obtaining Sh300 million from Sounthorn Chanthavong, a director of Simoung Group Company, claiming that he would sell him gold.

Court documents filed by the Asset Recovery Agency reveal the “price on the road” for the Bentley is Sh. 47 million.

He also famously splashed Sh. 47 million to customize his 2018 Bentley Continental GT. A vehicle order agreement dated June 18, 2018, between the Bentley sales consultant Dimitris Karakloulas and Otieno, shows he paid Sh. 9.6 million as an advance deposit.

He paid the balance of Sh. 35.7 million in 14 installments over one year. The money was wired to RT East Africa Limited. Jared Otieno Porsche.

In the last elections he wanted to be the governor for Homabay County but shelved his ambitions
