Kenya has tried in Devolving cancer treatment, Texas cancer centre founder Catherine Nyongesa says


Catherine Nyongesa, the founder of Texas cancer centre has today louded the government in its efforts of making treatments available through the country.

Nyongesa while speaking to the press in Nairobi said that in the last 10 years alot has been achieved in relations to cancer treatment and awareness.

” The government has worked on 10 chemotherapy administration centers and radiotherapy in Nakuru, Mombasa, Eldoret, Kenyatta University, KNH centre and in parts of Garisa as a way of helping the sick through out the country ” she said.

She said that although More is yet to be achieved, the Uhuru regime has done a tramendous job.

” The Uhuru government mostly concentrated in training cancer specialists in the country like: Oncology nurses, oncology doctors, medical physics, Radiotherapist among others, ” she said.

She said that currently cancer patients can use the NHIF card to seek treatments in various hospital in th country.

“NHIF has been funding cancer care and currently nearly 100% of all patients in public hospitals rely on NHIF oncology package,” she added.

She acknowledged that the journey has not been smooth due to various challenges experienced.

” Issues like, insufficient allocations and delayed disbursements of funds to Counties by the National Treasury, limited capacity and skills to deliver oncology services,” has in one way or another affected the implementation of cancer treatment programs.

She said that although the government has done alot of cance awareness in rural area, still alot needed to be done.

Nyongesa added that Quality audits by regulatory bodies like National cancer institute(NCI), KMPDC, KENRA needed to be activated to tame fake cancer experts and Doctors that have causing mayhem and even deaths among some cancer patients.
